Other Solutions to Restore the Settings Icon on the iPhone or iPad

1- Restart Your iPhone/iPad

Another alternative to restore the settings app on your iPhone or iPad would be to restart it.

  1. Press and hold either the volume up or down button, along with the power button, until the slider appears to turn it off.
  2. Now drag the slider to restart your iPhone or iPad.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds before powering it back on.
  4. To power it on, press the power button until the Apple logo appears.

The phone or iPad should boot up as normal, with the Settings icon back in place.

2- Restore Your iOS Device From a Previous Backup

One more alternative would be to restore the device from a previous backup.

Make sure you have backed up your device before doing this, because the backup you’re about to restore will bring back all of your apps, settings, contacts, etc., from a certain point in time, i.e., not necessarily the most up-to-date version.

However, it will delete all of your music that is not synced with iCloud, your Mac, or iTunes first.

It may also reset some other preferences that were set on the iPhone/iPad, such as email accounts, etc.

So, make sure you know what you’re doing if you go down this route, more on how to back up your iOS device later.

Otherwise, I recommend the very first option above for most users who need to get their Settings app back onto their iPhone or iPad.

How to Backup Your iOS Device

If you’ve found yourself saying, “If anything were to happen to my iPhone, I’d be so mad!”, here’s how you can set things up so that your data is less likely to wind up lost or in the wrong hands, using iCloud, Mac, or iTunes.

How to Backup Your iOS Device using iCloud

Apple provides iCloud Backup for iOS devices such as iPhone and iPad. When enabled, you can backup your device data (e.g., Camera Roll, Contacts) to the cloud without having to connect to iTunes or sync with a computer.

To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Under your setting, tap on your name and photo
  3. Tap on iCloud
  4. Now, select iCloud Backup.
  5. Finally, turn on iCloud Backup.

You should note that iCloud will automatically backup your phone provided it’s plugged in and connected to the Internet; Your device should also be locked in order for the auto-backup to take place.

iCloud Backup is enabled by default, but it can be turned off at any time.

iCloud generates daily backups every 24 hours. You can also manually trigger an immediate backup whenever you want to.

To perform a manual backup, tap Back Up Now.

If you run out of storage space due to iCloud backups, the methods below will help you solve this issue:

▪️ How to Delete iCloud Backup on an iOS Device

One great thing about turning on iCloud Backup is that it backs up your iPhone data without having to sync with iTunes on your computer. But if you no longer need all the data backed up in iCloud, you can get rid of it.

There are two ways to delete iCloud Backups:

  • Removing a single backup from a specific date
  • Deleting all backups from a specific device

▪️ How to Reduce Occupied iCloud Storage Space

If you turn on iCloud Backup and find that your iOS device is running out of space because of the backup, there are things you can do to reduce iCloud storage usage.

You can opt not to back up some data or apps that automatically sync with iTunes, such as iBooks and Podcasts, which will save space for other types of data needed by iOS devices.

In addition, if you have more than one iOS device connected to an iCloud account, you can change the number of days the system keeps backups or clear all settings and data from your device.

How to Back Up Your iOS Device Using Your Mac

Make sure you have a cable to connect your iOS device to the computer with.

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Locate and click on your iOS device in the sidebar.
  3. Click General at the top of the Finder screen.
  4. At this point, there are two choices for what you want to do:

a) If you would like to backup all of your data onto this Mac and protect that information with an encryption password, select Encrypt local backup and then click Back Up Now.

b) If you’d only like certain items backed up, deselect the undesired ones (or if you don’t want anything encrypted), select Back Up Now.

If you choose to encrypt your backup data, a pop-up window will come up asking you for a password.

After filling it in and clicking “OK,” click “Use Mac account” if prompted.

It will take some extra time for the first backup to finish. If the process ever fails before it gets finished entirely, just keep trying until it works!

Repeat this process whenever you want to back up your iOS device onto your Mac again.

How to Back Up Your iOS Device Using Your Windows PC

I recommend that anyone with an iOS device do this as it can be very helpful in case anything happens to your device.

If you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, then you’re definitely going to want to know how to back up all of your stuff onto your computer just in case something should happen to the device.

  1. Open iTunes on your computer if it isn’t already open.
